Festivals - some of our favouritesThu 30th Apr 2009
Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire Jarvis Cocker to see full line up and more info click here to go to the website In 2005 the word had spread and 3000 people turned up, the same relaxed atmosphere remained. There was a feeling that you could do anything that you wanted; and people did. Dressed as Dictators people threw themselves over and into 6ft high pianos in the Suicide Olympics, at 10am Monday the wild times were still rolling. In 2006 the festival swelled to 6000, something we had never expected. Everyone had an incredible time, but we were not quite prepared for how widely we had become known. In September 2006 the Head Gardener and Team participated at Burning Man in the Nevada Desert. We took off our clothes, painted ourselves blue and decided to begin a new phase of the Secret Garden Party.
Brave New Worlds was created. We introduced the Action Camps & Events, The Avant Garden and established the annual Expression Theme designed to encourage vision and participation. The Garden will never be the same again. As 2007 was a revolution for the SGP, we felt it was appropriate to use 2008 to explore the dramatic transformations of Past, Present and Future, the great happenings that have created the world we inhabit today. The Expression Theme became Come The Revolutions. As an individual at the Secret Garden Party you have that rare opportunity to be and do anything you desire. Few people, few places and even fewer countries have this powerful freedom.

The WOMAD Festival experience is not about the familiar, the tried and tested; its essence is in the discovery and enjoyment of a totally unexpected artist or a style of music which would never otherwise have been encountered. It's a magical, musical melting pot, enriching all who experience it.

This will be the 4th Bloom Festival and we are so excited about what we have lined up this summer we can barely keep our hats on. We aim to create a festival that is easy to navigate (no 20 mile hikes! no hour long queues!), super friendly and safe, packed with tonnes of fun and nonsense and has the very best gourmet food, cocktails, facilities - and of course top notch music and entertainment. Pull up a deck chair, drink a cocktail and have a look around our website - you never know, we might just be dancing together outside in the sunshine in a couple of months time!

With acts from all over the globe you really are spoilt for choice to listen and set your eyes on. A Highlight from last years festival was Babylon Circus the self-proclaimed "French gypsy dancehall punksters". There is loads of fun to be had for children of all ages. This is one of the most diverse and best run festivals for sure, you will never get bored or grumpy (even on the worst of heads), I promise.
A whole array of fancy dress, impromptu performance, ferris wheel, fire shows, installations, live art, circus acts, designated kid zones, a range of holistic therapies in the Bloom Vegetable patch, markets and a selection of quality, organic eateries. Expect electro, house, hip hop, jazz, funk and drum 'n' bass…. plus comedy and cabaret. Wooooh !
The festival has five stages: main stage, lakeside stage (powered by the sun, or by a back-up bio-diesel generator), and big top, plus a roller disco, karaoke, contemporary circus performances (tightrope walking, stunning swinging trapeze, pole dancing), and loads more.
We see Shambala as a creative, non-commercial, ethical and family-friendly festival with a wild side. We have endeavoured to cultivate a down-to-earth mix of creativity, the unexpected, a warm & friendly atmosphere, and quality entertainment. We feel striongly about partcipation rather than just consuming, and offer plenty of stuff to get involved with, cinemas, many workshops (dance, spritual, craft, loads of kids activities, circus performance, talks, sauna, cafes, massive site art, a lovely crowd and a lot of suprises!
